The Cosimo and Lorenzo apartments are in the Florence city centre, and this means that you can easily get to most of the monuments in the city centre, either walking or by bus.
In the nearby Piazza San Marco we can find the San Marco church, built and renovated by the famous architect Michelozzo, commissioned by the Medici family. Today the San Marco Monastery is a museum housing works by Beato Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Dalla Robbia, Paolo Uccello and many other artists who have made Florence famous throughout the world.
Once you get to Piazza San Marco you have to visit the Scalzo Cloister, entirely covered in frescoes in various stages by Andrea Del Sarto in the years between 1509 and 1526.
The Palazzo Medici Riccardi is of inestimable historical and artistic value because the history of Florence was actually made here; besides hosting interesting exhibitions on the Renaissance period, it provides the opportunity to get a glimpse of the life led by the Medici, the most important Florentine family from the historical point of view. The Chapel of the Magi inside the palace causes a wonderful sensation of amazement.
Near the apartment, you can find the botanical garden called the “Giardino dei Semplici”, one of the world’s first botanical gardens; now belonging to the University of Florence, it is open to visitors.
Piazza San Marco is just around the corner from the Accademia Gallery, the museum where you can see the famous David by Michelangelo.
If you rent an apartment in the city centre, near all the major museums and monuments, you will also find all the major services you might need such as grocers’, cafés, internet points, laundries, launderettes, and take-away restaurants for something quick or an ethnic meal. Everything is here in the neighbourhood.
